This is two things kept in one place. The first is a directory of independent shops, studios and services — places worth knowing about, described plainly. The second is a library of downloadable notes: field guides, primers, small reports, and reference material that makes each place easier to understand before you go.
Records and notes stay linked. A record for a place carries the notes that mention it; a note points back to the places it covers. Moving between the two shouldn't feel like moving between two sites.

Add a place to the directory with an address, contact, and a paragraph. Or upload a note as a portable file — 25 MB max, versioned on receipt.

An editor reviews it.
Every submission passes through a person before it publishes. Small fixes get made in place; anything unclear comes back to you.

It joins the index.
Places sit in the directory with a stable URL. Notes join the library with a filename, size, and updated date.

It stays honest.
Records that stop being true get retired. Notes get re-versioned when the source is updated. Nothing here is set-and-forget.

How do I add a place to the directory?+
Sign in, open the submission workspace, and choose "Add a place." Fill in the address and one paragraph of context. An editor will review it — usually within two working days.
What file formats do you accept for field notes?+
A single portable file per note — sized to print and read on any device. Uploads cap at 25 MB per file.
How is a record verified?+
An editor confirms address, contact and hours against a primary source (the venue's own site, a phone call, or an in-person visit). Records that fail verification stay in the queue until they can be checked.
Do you charge for inclusion or run sponsored records?+
No. There is no paid placement and no sponsorship. If a record is here, it is here on its merits.
Can I download an older version of a note?+
Every note lists an "Updated" date. The download always serves the current version; earlier revisions are kept internally for editor reference but are not published.
